In furtherance of their application for a warrant to practice as an advocate in Malta, law graduates (or under-graduates) are required to attend the law practice of an already-established lawyer or lawfirm. According to Section 81 of the Code of Organisation and Civil Procedure,

81. No person shall be entitled to obtain the warrant referred to in article 79, unless - ... (d) he has, after satisfying the requirement of paragraph (c), or, in the case of persons regularly following the academical course of law in the University of Malta, at any time after the commencement of the last academic year of the said course, for a period of not less than one year regularly attended at the office of a practising advocate of the Bar of Malta and at the sittings of the superior courts;

Occasionally, we will give law students the opportunity to receive hands-on familiarisation and training in furtherance of this statutory requirement. This will include attendance in Court and may include office work, legal research and drafting. Ideal candidates will:

  • be fifth or final-year LL.D. students at the University of Malta;

  • have good communication skills;

  • be fluent in Maltese, English and another European language and able to produce grammatically and orthographically reliable text in Maltese and English;

  • be proficient in Windows™ based software, including word processing software and email clients and able to use mainstream internet technology;

  • be reliable and available to attend lawfirm practice for regular hours each week.

Interested candidates should send a detailed curriculum vitae on info@mbvclaw.com.
