In furtherance of their application for a warrant to practice as an advocate in
Malta, law graduates (or under-graduates) are required to attend the law
practice of an already-established lawyer or lawfirm. According to Section 81 of
the Code of Organisation and Civil Procedure,
81. No person shall be entitled to obtain the warrant referred to in article 79,
unless - ... (d) he has, after satisfying the requirement of paragraph (c), or,
in the case of persons regularly following the academical course of law in the
University of Malta, at any time after the commencement of the last academic
year of the said course, for a period of not less than one year regularly
attended at the office of a practising advocate of the Bar of Malta and at the
sittings of the superior courts;
Occasionally, we will give law students
the opportunity to receive hands-on familiarisation and training in furtherance
of this statutory requirement. This will include attendance in Court and may
include office work, legal research and drafting. Ideal candidates will:
be fifth or final-year LL.D. students at the
University of Malta;
have good communication skills;
be fluent in Maltese, English
and another European language and able to produce grammatically and
orthographically reliable text in Maltese and English;
be proficient in Windows™ based
software, including word processing software and email clients and able to use
mainstream internet technology;
be reliable and available to
attend lawfirm practice for regular hours each week.
